چکیده

This paper presents the Abductive LogIc Agent System (ALIAS, for short), a multi-agent architecture based on cooperating intelligent logic agents. Agents in ALIAS are grouped into bunches; each bunch represents an agora where agents together discuss about common arguments. ALIAS agents can ramble from bunch to bunch at runtime, thus collecting information (i.e. agent's experience) derived from the interactions with other agents in diierent bunches. ALIAS agents are equipped with hypothetical reasoning capabilities, performed by means of abduction: if the knowledge available to an agent is insuucient to solve a query, the agent could abduce new hypotheses. To this purpose, each agent is characterized by a local knowledge base represented by an abductive logic program. Agents in the same bunch might diier in their knowledge bases, but must agree on assumed hypotheses. Abduced hypotheses within a bunch build up a common knowledge base that is dynamically created and managed by means of a tuple space .

The Dynamic Composition of Abductive Agents in ALIAS

We present an architecture composed of several cooperating intelligent logic agents, ALIAS. In ALIAS, agents are equipped with hypothetical reasoning capabilities, obtained by means of abduction. A distributed abduction algorithm (DAA) is the mechanism agents are provided with in order to ensure consistency among the assumptions they make while trying to solve their goals (i.e., to give explana...

Using Abductive Logic Agents for Legal Justification

In this paper we present a novel approach for legal justification based on an abductive multi-agent system. Legal justification has the main objective of finding the plausible explanations for some given pieces of evidence, for instance in a crime trial. In our approach, the process of justification is done through the collaborative abductive reasoning of agents, which operate within a logic-ba...

An Implementation for Abductive Logic Agents

This paper presents the distributed implementation of ALIAS, an architecture composed of several cooperating intelligent agents. This system is particularly suited to solve problems in cases where knowledge about the problem domain is incomplete and agents may need to form reasonable hypotheses. In ALIAS agents are equipped with hypothetical reasoning capabilities, performed by means of abducti...

Negotiation via co-operation and competition in ALIAS

This paper presents ALIAS, an agent architecture based on intelligent logic agents, where the main form of agent reasoning is abduction. The system is particularly suited for solving problems where knowledge is incomplete, where agents may need to make reasonable hypotheses about the problem domain and other agents. ALIAS agents are pro-active, exhibiting a goal-directed behavior, and autonomou...

Distributed abductive reasoning with constraints

Abductive reasoning is a powerful inference mechanism that can generate conditional proofs. The combination of Abduction and Logic Programming (ALP) [5] has many known applications, such as planning, scheduling, cognitive robotics, medical diagnosis and policy analysis [3]. However, most abductive frameworks [7, 4, 8] rely on a centrally executed proof procedure whereas many of the application ...
